Civil society organizations and non-state actors in the health sector have called on the Federal and state governments to address challenges affecting the implementation of the Task shifting and Task sharing policy.
They made the call on Wednesday in Abuja during a stakeholder’s meeting organised by the dRPC -PACFaH@Scale project in Abuja.
Senior Technical Adviser, dRPC – PACFaH@Scale project, Emmanuel Abanida, said since the introduction of the policy in 2014 , it has faced challenges which also affected its adoption by some states in the country.
He said there was need for government to involve civil society organisations as it begins review of the policy to ensure accountability and dissemination of the revised policy.
Director, Research and Statistics of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Emmanuel Meribole said funds constitute a major problem to the implementation of the policy.
He said that there was resistance to the policy in some states for fear of job security , adding that frontline health workers could perform assigned tasks if they are adequately trained, monitored and supervised .
Director Reproductive Health of the ministry , Dr Kayode Afolabi said the development of the policy commenced in 2012 to ensure provision of basic health care services in rural and hard to reach areas.
