The federal government has reiterated its commitment to implementing access to information, transparency and accountability in public services.
The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Beatrice Jedy-Agba, stated this during a conference to mark this year’s International Day for Universal Access to Information 2024 on Monday in Abuja.
Speaking on the theme, “Mainstreaming Access to Information and Participation in the Public Sector,” Jedy-Agba highlighted recent judicial rulings that have strengthened the Freedom of Information Act, emphasising the judiciary’s critical role in promoting transparency within public institutions.
“Government business must not be shrouded in secrecy,” she stated, aligning her message with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for an open administration.

She revealed the government’s plans to set an “Award of FOIA Compliance 2025,” which will recognise institutions that excel in upholding these principles, setting a new benchmark for accountability in Nigeria.
The conference was used to assess progress in government information accessibility and foster a culture of openness among public entities.
