FG strives to promote reading culture in Borno schools

The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) has conducted its 2021 readership promotion campaign in Borno State meant to stimulate a lasting love of reading, especially in schools.

Students and educationists from various schools attended the event with the theme: “Building a Nation of Readers: Share Your Story”, which took place at the state library, Maiduguri.

Addressing the attendees, the National Librarian, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, represented by Head, Plateau State Branch, Mrs Serah Mshelia, said the objective of the campaign was to encourage and revive the moribund reading culture among Nigerians through the promotion of the availability of good reading materials.

She said the campaign which was conducted nationwide had been extended to some identified groups such as “nursing mothers in maternity homes, workers and travellers in motor parks, inmates in correctional centres and rural communities.”
