The federal government has revealed that it is harnessing artificial intelligence to boost the economy, adding that Nigeria is eyeing the top in global AI ranking by 2027.

Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination made the disclosure in Abuja on Thursday at the Inaugural Saban Media Services Colloquium on AI Policy in Nigeria with the theme: “AI Policy in Nigeria: Navigating the Opportunities and Challenges for National Development.”

She said Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept, but a present-day reality reshaping economies, redefining governance, and influencing virtually every sector of human endeavour.

Represented by Dr. Khalipha Nuhu, Hadiza Bala in her address explained that “For Nigeria, the opportunities are immense, from enhancing public service delivery to strengthening national security and boosting agricultural productivity, as well as expanding access to healthcare and education, and unlocking entirely new industries that can create jobs for our youth.”

Earlier in her remarks, convener of the Colloquium, Leah Katung Babatunde noted that the theme was carefully selected as Artificial intelligence is not a distant concept; but one with potential to transform the economy. 

“From revolutionising healthcare and agriculture to enhancing our economy and public services, AI offers a new frontier of possibilities,” she added.
