The Minister of Youth Development, Engr Ayodele Olawande, has tasked the national chairman of the Traditional Youth Chiefs’ Forum of Nigeria to amplify the voices of all community members, especially the marginalised, and cultivate characters that promote peace, amid political and social cultural violence that have been ravaging the fabric of the nation.

Engr Olawande, while addressing the 115 traditional chiefs that came from across the 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who have converged at a two-day retreat in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Wednesday said the essence of the gathering was aimed at brainstorming on the challenges of peace and suggesting a way forward.

The minister, who was represented by Chief Obinna Nwaka, Director General Committee of Youth on Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS), explained that the approach is the best way and it would go a long way in fostering trust and cooperation, essential elements for meaningful development across the nation.

Speaking further on the 2025 theme titled, “The role of traditional youth chief’s in peace building and community development,” he said, “No single group can address the challenges of peace building, youth empowerment and community development alone.”

He said it required a concerted effort from traditional leaders, community members, government institutions, and stakeholders across all sectors.

Governor Abdullahi Sule who spoke at the event said Nigeria must remain united as it is the only way the nation would move forward.

Governor Sule, represented by the Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, said the unity of Nigeria could not be compromised.

He urged them to always embrace peace and appealed to traditional rulers across the nation who are custodian of the society to enlighten their subjects on the importance of peace.

He called on the youths across the 13 local government areas of the state to support the present administration under the leadership of Governor Sule to achieve his developmental strides.
