Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Technical Working Groups of NgREN in Abuja on Monday, Prof Okojie said NgREN has proven to be one of the major successes in the collective effort to reposition education and research in the country.
The expansion will be executed in the next phase of the project as part of its effort to create an effective learning, teaching, research and connectivity to the global academic world.
He said no country could make progress without research and education networking.
“In spite of the milestones attained since the inception of the network’s operations, we are well aware that we have barely scratched the surface and a lot of resources are still needed to bring it to par with its counterparts around the world,” Okojie said.
Minister of Education Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau said NgREN provides new technologies to be tested and implemented but with added capabilities to offer the efficiencies of unified communication and consolidation of digital content to enhance the technological profile of the Nigerian university system.
