The federal government has stated that successful candidates for the first cohort of the Nigeria Jubilee Programme (JEP) fellows would be deployed to their place of assignment by April.

Daily Trust recalls that the JEP was an initiative of the federal government to connect 20,000 youths with employers annually.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media & Publicity, Laolu Akande after the National Executive Meeting (NEC), stated that 116,763 applications were received and 5,898 Private Sector Institutions Expressed interest to host the fellows.

Akande while quoting the Minister of state for Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, said that one of the goals of the programme was to mobilise $260m over the five year period and the EU has committed 44m Euros into the fund.

The statement also stated that the council called for strong commitment of the state governors to procure locally assembled vehicles to address the burden of the public transportation system on citizens for official use by the states and for personal use.

It noted that the automotive industry has the capability to attract $1bn in Foreign Direct Investments as 63 Licenses have been issued with over 30 active assemblers.

It identified Lack of government patronage to assist assemblers in achieving economies of scale and insufficient vehicle credit financing to stimulate private off-take.
