Mr Salim Adegboyega, the Acting Director of Mines, Environmental and Compliance Department, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, made the disclosure to newsmen.
He said the plan to establish the laboratories started between 2007 and 2008 when the Federal Government had a long time plan to achieve vision 20:2020.
Adegboyega said the laboratories would cost the government between N150 million to N200 million to establish each of the laboratories.
“It was captured in the first implementation plan of the country but unfortunately the fund was not forthcoming,’’ the acting director said.
He said that as soon as the fund was made available to the ministry, the project would commence.
Adegboyega said the establishment of the laboratories would assist the ministry to monitor, supervise and regulate all activities on environmental management in mining sites across the country.
He said that a Mini Environmental Analytical Laboratory had ben established at the ministry’s headquarters at the cost of N70 million in 2011.(NAN)
