The Deputy Director, Sector Development Project of the Commission, Alhaji Bashir Idris said the commission is doing everything possible to increase internet access to Nigeria, disclosing that about 30 to 40 per cent of Nigerians have access to internet.
Idris stated this in Ilorin, Kwara State during a pre-press week media roundtable organised by the state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said the commission through its Universal Service Provision Fund is working relentlessly to increase internet accessibility to all towns and villages.
According to him, virtually all secondary schools and higher institutions are being provided with the computer sets and internet facilities as part of efforts to bring internet access to the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
According to him, NCC does not provide internet service but its responsibility is to provide infrastructure which the service providers could tap to provide services to the public at affordable rate.
