Professor Obioma stated this in Abuja when he received a delegation from the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) led by the Director General of the commission, Mr. Adolphus Joe Ekpe.
Obioma said the subject may be ready for use by next year as the processes were just started between the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) and the Nigerian Educational Research Development Council (NERDC).
“After the setting up of a working committee which we did today and gave it 23rd of this month to come up with a drafted Memorandum of Understanding that will capture the areas of collaboration, the outcome of the collaboration will be presented to the Joint Consultative Council on Education (JCCE) for ratification before presenting it to the National Council on Education for the final approval,” he said.
Professor Obioma also said: “We are hoping to complete these processes and get the approval from the National Council on Education by next year.”
He said the council has been into collaboration with various agencies including the Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Earlier, Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Mr. Adolphus Joe Ekpe said lottery started in Nigeria since 2005 and has been using part of its fund for nationwide projects particularly in grassroots sports development, adding that “over 1000 primary schools have been selected nationwide for the projects.”
However, he said an assessment has shown that lottery is still under-tapped in Nigeria due to lack of lottery education and awareness, saying the growth of the industry is stagnated due to ethnic, cultural and religious sentiments.
