The Federal Ministry of Environment is to partner with Kano state government to tackle environmental challenges caused by industrial waste discharged by industries in the state.
Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed stated this when she paid a working visit to Industrial waste disposal site at Challawa area of the metropolis.
She said federal government would work with the Kano state government to come up with right policies to enable the ministry take necessary actions to deal with environmental challenges posed by untreated industrial discharge and desert encroachment.
“We are in Kano to look at the challenges faced by people through the industrial waste disposed by industries. Therefore, the ministry is into discussion with the state government to see how to tackle industrial waste disposed by such companies which posed a health risk to people of the state,” she said.
Shedding more light on the issue after monitoring the monthly sanitation exercise, the state commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Ali Abubakar Makoda said as a result of the minister’s visit, secondary treatment of water discharge by such industries would start very soon as first measure to ameliorate the problems faced by residents in the state.
