Worried by the incessant road crashes and loss of lives along the Kano-Maiduguri road, the federal government has begun redesigning the Birnin Kudu axis of the road in Jigawa State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Malam Babangida Husaini, revealed this when he led a delegation on an on-the-spot assessment visit to the area.
Malam Husaini said the visit would avail them the opportunity to determine how the redesigning would take place, especially with the multiple sharp bends that characterised the road thereby causing accidents leading to loss of lives.
He said, “As you can see, this road was constructed over 50 years ago, and there is the need for it to be redesigned to remove all the unnecessary sharp bends and corners that have become dangerous points to motorists.
“In every dangerous corner along the road, the story of fatal accidents is no longer new. To tackle the incessant road accidents, therefore, the ministry has assembled experts to assess the situation and find a lasting solution to the issue.”
