The Federal Government has earmarked N161 million for the purchase of 10 monitoring vehicles through National Commission For Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) in 2017.

Detail of the 2017 budget showed that the 10 vehicles which include six Toyota Hilux, two Toyota Corolla and and one Coaster bus will be used to facilitate supervision of mass literacy activities by the commission.

According to the budget proposal, the commission will spend N150 million on constructions of one vocational demonstration hall and room at Kano centre.

It indicated that the commission will spend over N108million on monitoring and data collection on non-formal education programme.

It further indicated that NMEC will spend over N105 million on construction and furnishing of two community learning centres at Jigawa and Borno states.

The 2017 budget proposal shows that the NMEC will spend over N101 million on purchase of motorcycles for distribution to 406 local government areas in line with   the Act establishing it.

On direct support to 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on rural facilitators scheme, the commission will spend over N100 million.

The commission will pay N15, 000 monthly salary to two facilitators in each of the 774 local governments across the country according to the proposal.

The sum of N2 billion will be spent by the commission out of  which N1 billion was allocated for capital expenditure, N917 million for recurrent expenditure while N59 million was set aside as overhead. The sum of N857 million was proposed as personnel cost.
