The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has trained 50 agric extension workers from Gombe State on modern extension tools, methodologies and selected agricultural value chain.
Speaking at the closing of the three-day training, the state’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Muhammad Magaji Gettado, said the training was organised to address the drift in the agricultural extension system.

He commended the federal government for investing heavily in agriculture, saying the effort will reduce hunger and address food insecurity in the country.
Gettado, therefore, urged the participants to share the knowledge they acquired at the training to other farmers in their respective communities, for the advancement of agricultural production in the state.
He added that the agricultural process cannot succeed without the input of extension agents and called on the federal government to come up with a mechanism to constantly keep extension agents informed on global modern technology in farming.
The state coordinator of the FMARD, Dr Musa Mohammed, said the training was conducted simultaneously in the 36 states of the federation, including Abuja, to fast track best agricultural practices to update farmers through agric extension agents for value chain.
On his part, the programme manager for Gombe State Agricultural Development Programme (GSADP), Mr Musa M. Ishayaku, said the training was also geared towards actualising the federal government agenda in revitalising agric extension services to regain its lost glory.
He stated that the participants were trained on millet, cowpea and fish farming, to alleviate poverty and provide income generation for farmers in the country.
