The Minister of Science Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has unveiled the guidelines on commercialization of Research and Development (R&D) results and inventions produced by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).

This is to fast track easy publication of research and innovative works for job creation and rapid economic development of the country, Dr Onu said at the launch of the guidelines in Abuja.

The launch of the publication also featured the presentation of 23 patent certificates to individuals and organizations.

According to him, it was in the pursuit in this mandate that NOTAP decided to produce the publication to serve as guideline and reference for stakeholders in technological field, scientists, researchers inventors, innovators and those in innovation commercialization, adding that he is happy that the publication has carefully chronicled the process and sequence of research and development results in line global standard and best practices.

On the objectives of the publication, the minister said: “It is to convert the numerous R/D results from the tertiary institutions and research institutes into useful products and services to meet the needs of the people, make it market driven and to accelerate industrialization of the economy and technological development among others.”

But Dr. Onu acknowledged that R/D results’ commercialization has not been quite successful in Nigeria to achieve its objectives due to weak intellectual property culture among researchers, scientists and innovators.
