The Federal Government has launched the Early Childhood Development (ECD) initiative to boost child education.
Speaking at the 2017 National Early Childhood Development Conference in Abuja, Minister of Education Adamu Adamu said, ECD was essential to the education sub-sector.
“It is common knowledge that ECD in the life of a child is crucial and fundamental as it greatly influences their personality in the early stage of life.”
He said research has shown that ECD has a lot of benefits to academic achievement, educational progression and attainment in life.
The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, said ECD focused on the first 1,000 days of a child which was crucial to its development.
“If the baby in the womb does not get good nutrition it will affect not only the brain but the entire development of the child. Therefore, the investment should start even before the pregnancy is conceived,” he said.
