He made the call in Abuja yesterday, during the 13th board of trustees meeting of Baze University, urging for the review of taxation charges paid by private institutions.
Modibbo, who is also a board of trustees’ member of the institution, said the proposed loan would assist private universities to cope with their challenges.
“Private universities, as partners in progress, need loan intervention from the government to flourish in the country. The taxes private universities are paying are too much and, therefore, need to be reviewed.”
The former minister appealed to education regulatory agencies to consider the challenges faced by private universities, noting that some regulatory agencies became hurdles to the progress of private institutions in Nigeria.
Earlier, the chairman of the board Dr. Ahmadu Abubakar said the institution would hold its second convocation on October 10, 2015.
Abubakar said the university has planned to admit more students for the next academic session, adding that more lecturers would also be recruited from within and outside the country.    
He said the board was satisfied with the performance of the management of the school, urging the staff and the management to maintain the tempo.
On his part, the pro-chancellor of the university Senator Yusuf Baba Ahmed said that only qualitative education can make a change in the country.
