Speaking at the 14th national convention of the association, Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, agreed with the call in view of the challenges workers faced with their employers.
Adeyeye said workplace and society should be restructured to accommodate pressures of making parents available to children in their upbringing. However, he said Nigerian Labour laws guarantee rights to secure jobs, minimum wage and pension; prohibit child labour and ensure minimum hours of work and maximum safety standard at work.
He attributed family challenges as major problems confronting the country, saying parenting is the most important job in nation building which can also enhance the economy.
The Lagos zonal President of NAFAD, Mrs Theresa Enyinna, said some challenges parents face in the work environment deter them from bringing up their children with moral values and healthy self-confidence.
