The Jam’iyyatu Ansariddeen Attijjaniyyah (JAA) has urged the Federal Government to take drastic measures against criminals operating in the aviation sector.

Daily Trust reports that Ibrahim, a renowned Islamic cleric from Zamfara State, was arrested and detained by Saudi government for more than two years over alleged drugs peddling before he was released by a Saudi court.

The Chairman of Nigerian in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said Ibrahim was an innocent Nigerian that fell victim of a drug planting/trafficking syndicate when he travelled to Saudi Arabia in March 2017 for lesser hajj.

On getting to the Jeddah airport, he was held, charged, tried in Saudi Arabia and found guilty despite being innocent before a case of retrial was granted.

This re-trial came up on Feb. 18, 2020 with necessary documentary evidence and he was discharged and freed of the allegations of drugs.

The documentary evidences provided included a written statement by NDLEA stating that they have arrested and charged three persons who planned the drugs on the defendant and a certified copy of the two counts charge sheet from the Federal High Court Kano.

A statement from JAA’s National Secretary, Muhammad Yahaya, commended the Nigerian government for ensuring the release of Ibrahim.

“Jam’iyyatu Ansariddeen Attijjaniyyah wishes to use this medium to urge the government to take drastic measures to ensure that criminals within the aviation and related sectors do not frame unsuspecting innocent and well-respected individuals and citizens in the course of their nefarious activities as experienced by the learned scholar,” the statement said.
