The Surveyor- General of the Federation, Mr. Ebisintei Awudu, has called on government to make maximum use of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to generate substantial amount of revenue for the country.

He  stated this when he received  his foreign counterpart from Ordinance Survey International, a subsidiary of the Ordinance Survey of Britain, John Kedar. 

He said that in the face of the current economic recession, his office only needed “seed” money to start generating reliable geospatial data that can be used to make money, as is the case in Britain, for the country.

“To generate revenue by OSGOF is possible if we have the seed money. We may not generate as much as the Ordinance Survey which has been in existence for 225 years, we can do quite a lot if seed money is provided in addition manpower development,” he said.

Awudu, who thanked Kedar and his team for coming to share their age-long experience with Nigeria, said, “We have gained a lot from this visit, especially in the area of using digital technology and advanced modern methods to get quality geospatial data and putting them to business as well.”

He said OSGOF was undergoing restructuring and repositioning to  provide geospatial data that could be used for good governance, security, economic planning among others.

Speaking earlier, Kedar said the benefit of good geospatial data to a nation was enormous and cuts across all facets of an economy, adding that survey had advanced from analogue to digital and from mere data generation to business in his country.
