The Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing   Suleiman Hassan Zarma has expressed the readiness of the ministry to partner with genuine investors in the housing sector to increase the nation’s housing stock.

He stated this in his speech presented at  the national housing summit organized by  Housing Circuit Magazine in conjunction with the Senate committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development themed “addressing housing stock deficit in Nigeria: A holistic view.”

The minister said that any strategy that will reduce the cost of decent housing must deal with issues inhibiting factors such as access to land,  inefficient mechanism for acquiring or transferring property rights, lack of adequate infrastructure,  over reliance on imported building materials  and associated bottlenecks associated with land transactions.

He said the ministry on its part is leading the drive on land and housing reforms to make land readily accessible for the provision of shelter for Nigerians.

He said, “Already, the ministry has produced the revised and updated national housing policy, the urban development policy and the national building code.”
