The Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) has said it is collaborating with security agencies on the production and usage of the 3D interactive map to assist security operatives in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Addressing journalists on the sidelines of an interactive forum between the office and the various security agencies in Abuja, the Surveyor General, Abdulganiyu Adebomehin, said the meeting was very significant not only to his office, but to the security operatives, adding that, “If you produce this map and there is nobody to use it, what it means is that we are talking to ourselves. We don’t want to talk to ourselves alone. We want people to know what we are doing.”

He stated that in view of the prevailing insecurity in the country, there was the need for a serious collaboration between his office and the operatives.

He said, “We need the collaboration; for example, where there is a forest map, you can look at the map tells you these are the things that you need to have to fight insurgents in their terrain. Even if they are used to that area, with the map, you know what you need to fight them in their own terrain and defeat them.

“But if you don’t have it, you will be short, but with the 3D map, those who think it is their terrain cannot have an edge over you.”

Adebomehin, however, lamented that they were handicapped by paucity of funds, noting that, “We could not go ahead due to paucity of funds. We decided to look at the maps we have for now and we found out that there are errors here and there. But due to paucity of funds we have not been able to produce a new administrative map.

“If government releases funds to us, we can produce the 3D maps; we need money, we need close to N15bn to produce 3D maps.”
