The machine, which cost is put at N40 million each, is for enhancing quality of cotton production from the South-west and North-central zones.
Sokefun made this disclosure at a capacity building program for South-west cotton farmers in Abeokuta last week, noting that the installation would go a long way to assist the farmers in the zones.
The commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer I.O. Bisiriyu, said the partnership with Arewa Cotton is also a way forward to reaching the desired goals, adding, “I want to still use this opportunity to call on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the need to install a High Volume Instrument (HVI) to enhance the quality of cotton produced from this zone.
“This has been approved in the project description of the Federal Department of Agriculture in Promoting Cotton Development in Nigeria. In the document, 2 (two) nos of High Volume Instrument were to be procured and installed in Kastina and Ogun states at a cost of N40 million each,” he said.
The chairperson of the National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), Alhaja Chief (Mrs.) Lola Adeoye-Kushimo, said the objective of the training, with the theme: “Producing long stable cotton to improve Nigeria cotton export for the benefit of our economy” is to revive the production and processing of cotton in the South-west region of Nigeria.
