The President of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Dr. Moses Arokoyo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing a $2.5 billion partnership deal with the JBS Group, one of the world’s largest meat processing companies.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Dr Arokoyo described the investment as a significant step toward boosting the nation’s livestock industry and strengthening its economy.
He congratulated the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Muhktar Mahia, and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, for selecting the JBS Group, which has a proven capacity to process 33,000 cattle and over 8 million birds daily using cutting-edge, zero-waste technology.
“It is heartwarming to see the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development taking bold steps to ensure the availability of much-needed protein for Nigerians,” Dr Arokoyo said.
He emphasised that focused investments in the livestock sector will enhance food security, create jobs for Nigeria’s youth, and facilitate the transfer of agricultural technology across the country’s 774 local government areas.
Dr. Arokoyo also pledged the unwavering commitment of veterinary professionals nationwide to support and actively participate in the successful execution of the initiative.
“We are fully aligned with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and are responding at all levels to the call for ensuring food security,” he said.
