The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has commenced construction of its Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of the Federal Government’s nationwide affordable housing initiative.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held along the airport road in Uyo, was performed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, alongside FHA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo.

In his remarks, Ojo thanked Governor Eno for his cooperation and commitment to improving housing access for residents of the state.

“From the onset, His Excellency was very receptive to our proposal and graciously allocated land to FHA free of charge,” Ojo said. “Akwa Ibom gave us a level of encouragement that has not been matched anywhere.”

The FHA boss noted that the Uyo project marks the beginning of the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, aimed at providing affordable and livable homes across Nigeria.

“This initiative fulfills President Tinubu’s promise to ensure every Nigerian has a roof over their head,” Ojo stated. “We are not just building houses, but creating sustainable communities that promote productivity and a better quality of life.”

Ojo added that the Authority had concluded procurement processes for housing projects across all six geo-political zones, with upcoming groundbreakings planned in Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa States.

He also revealed that FHA has been completing and commissioning abandoned projects nationwide, in line with President Tinubu’s directive that “the era of abandoned projects is over.”

Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, commended the Federal Government and FHA for selecting Akwa Ibom as the starting point of the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.

“We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving this project and the FHA for choosing Akwa Ibom as the kickoff state,” Eno said. “Our administration will give every necessary support to ensure speedy completion.”

The governor reaffirmed his government’s commitment to collaboration with federal agencies to address housing deficits and promote development.

“Civil servants remain at the heart of our policies,” he added. “That is why we continue to invest in affordable housing through initiatives like the Aviation City, Judicial City, and Legislative Village.”

Eno also disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had been allocated 50 hectares of land for its own housing projects in the state.

The Renewed Hope Housing project in Akwa Ibom is expected to create jobs for local artisans, contractors, and suppliers, while providing affordable housing options for residents.
