In her speech at the occasion, the Chairperson of FIDA, Mrs Maryam Ahmed Sabo, said “government, non-governmental organizations and the general public must come together to bring an end to any form of violence against women and child rape.” She however, stressed that it is the responsibility of parents to hold their children as trust given to them by God and it is a duty upon them to ensure their protection.

The chairperson of the charitable organization also pointed out that the struggle for women’s right is not an attempt to equate them with their male counterparts, but to make them relate with males as partners. “The struggle for women’s rights is not about beating the men or rubbing shoulders with them, God in His infinite mercy has created man and woman to be partners in progress, but not to compete among themselves,” she said.

She however, noted that despite several attempts to end violence against women, they are still being abused and dehumanized the world over.

Mrs. Maryam then reiterated FIDA’s commitment to reversing the trend saying “we will not fold our arms while our fellow women are being raped, murdered, trafficked and forced into slavery and prostitution every day.” She also frowned at the upsurge in child rape, which she said was prevalent in the whole country, adding that now is the time to stop any form of violence against women and children.
