To this end, the association is participating actively as a stakeholder in the efforts to enact the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Bill currently before the National Assembly.
President of FIDA, Hauwa Shekarau, made the pledge last week in Abuja while briefing journalists on the 50th Anniversary of the association.
She enumerated the achievements of the body to include free legal services to indigent women and children, sensitisation programmes, legislative advocacy on issues affecting women, confronting HIV discrimination, legal literacy trainings, and partnership with like-minded organisations.
“In the past 50 years, FIDA Nigeria has rendered free legal services to over one million women across the country including women who went to court to enforce their political mandate,” she said.
On the abducted Chibok schoolgirls in Borno State, she added that the association is doing its bit to ensure their release through collaborating with other non-governmental organisations.
The event, which is billed for Thursday November 5 will have as its theme, ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Investing in Women and Children.’ Activities to mark the day will begin on Friday November 31 with prayer after the Juma’at Salat.
