Final year student dies in crash during post-exam celebration

A student of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has been killed in a car accident while celebrating the completion of his final examination paper.

Five other students were said to have sustained injuries in the crash.

The accident reportedly occurred around Ujoelen Junction on the Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway in Esan Central Local Government Area.

The unidentified student was part of a motorcade of fresh graduates who took to the highway in celebration after their signing out activities.

It was gathered that the victim, while in the convoy, attempted to overtake another vehicle and rammed into a stationary vehicle, dying on the spot.

The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the accident.

He said one person died while five others who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital.

He explained that the students, while celebrating after writing their last paper, entered the Ekpoma–Auchi highway in a convoy and crashed while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

He advised graduating students to celebrate within the confines of the campus, noting that they must remember there was life after graduation.
