The wedding Fatiha took place in Kano Friday July 6th, at Murtala Friday Mosque immediately after the Juma’at prayer.
Dawayya’s wedding to Teku followed the death of her longtime lover and fiancé, Mustapha Aliyu Tsanyawa, a member of the House of Representative, representing Tsanyawa and Kunchi constituency, who died in an Egyptian hospital after a lengthy illness barely a month to his proposed wedding to Rukkayya.
Rukayya has been a force in Kannywood, having climbed from the lowest rungs to the exalted position of a movie producer and has made no secret of her desire to get married.
She once told entertainment reporters that her greatest wish is to see that she married someone she loves and who loves her in return.
When asked if Teku is that kind of man, the actress said, “Teku is a nice man and a gentle man with a charismatic approach to issues. I love him with all my heart and I am 100% sure that he loves me too, our relationship is that which cannot be compared with others; we both understand each other and we have a lot of things in common. I believe among the entire female artistes that got married I am the luckiest and I thank God.”
The actress also announced her decision to quit acting following her wedding, saying, “Now that I am married, I will quit the movie industry though my company will continue producing movies since it is a family company. I will indeed miss my fans and I want them to know that I love them all,” she said.
Businessman Teku, who hails from Adamawa State, reportedly dated the actress for only a short period before deciding to get married.
“I knew Rukayya for quite a long time, but I have not had the opportunity of meeting her face to face till three months back in Abuja,” he said.
“Rukayya has been my heart’s desire for long without her knowing that, so when we met at Apo where she went to visit her sister, I said to myself this is the time to let her know how I feel about her. I approached her and the way and manner she reacted to my advances was what made me reach the conclusion that I have to take her in as a wife before someone did. That was three months ago, during that period I made a lot of consultations with friends and other people who knew Rukayya more than I did and the responses I got were so encouraging. I was strongly convinced that Rukayya is the woman for me, so we started dating and as God will have it here we are today as husband and wife. I thank God for giving me Rukayya as a wife,” he said.
