Financial miracles (I)
1 Kings 17:7-15, “And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. [8] And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, [9] Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow […]
1 Kings 17:7-15, “And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. [8] And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, [9] Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. [10] So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. [11] And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
[12] And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. [13] And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. [14] For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. [15] And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.”
Here was a case of dramatic financial intervention that saved a prophet and a family from being wiped out by lack and starvation. When you are faced with this kind of situation, you have no time to do business; God just has to provide. God will step into your situation and deliver you, in Jesus Name!
(MSG) To tell you the truth, I was a little afraid. I know you have high standards and hate sloppiness, and don’t suffer fools gladly.’
Basically there are 4 things that determine a person’s financial status:
1. What you think and how you think. What you believe. The servant with the one talent had four problems. The first was his ignorance. He said in Luke 19:21, “I know you are an austere man, reaping where you did not sow.” He said he knew but what he knew was wrong. What you know affects the way you think. Ignorance limits people. Acquiring relevant knowledge is key to achieving financial independence. The prodigal son thought of money as something you get from others and spend without having to work for it, etc. But God intends for us to live better than that.
2. What you do to get money. Or rather the service you render to get money. Here we shall see his other problems. Matthew 25:24-25, “Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I KNEW thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: [25] And I was AFRAID, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.” (b) He ignored his talent or gift. It is your talent that makes you unique and useful. There are things you do better than others; God put them there to make others need you. This young man became irrelevant because no one knew what he could do well because he buried his potential. (c) He was selfish; he didn’t think it wise to serve anybody but himself. Money is a reward for service. It is a reward for the value you add to others. If you serve yourself you pay yourself. But if you serve others they will pay you. The more people you serve, the more money you earn. Money must be earned before it can be spent. Most people spend all their energy thinking about what they want to acquire and get frustrated when they don’t get them. Spend your time thinking of what to do to earn money. In deciding that, think of what you are talented to do and what you love to do. On the other hand, the woman whose husband died had to be lunched into the oil business. She was directed to reach inside for the marketing skills inside her. She must have possessed marketing skills to be able to market the oil that multiplied miraculously. You can have the best products but they will not be sold if you don’t know how to market them. Even at that, you have to develop your salesmanship for it to feed you. Allow God to lead you into a business that matches your talent and He will prosper it. God will give you that idea that will launch you into major and continuous inflow of money, in the name of Jesus! Don’t rest until you get something doing! (d) He had fear in his life. Fear has held many people back from succeeding. They want assurances before making a move. Successful people are risk-takers. They take risks based on the promises of God. Once you identify your talent, start using it!
3. The financial principles you employ. Your work ethics, your money management skill, etc. You must know how to keep money and how to multiply money. Your investment strategy matters. The seeds you sow determines the harvest you reap. Majority of people who received financial intervention had to sow a seed. Seed sowing is God’s design to multiply your income from the little you earn. Practice it until you master it; you will certainly become financially independent.
4. The spiritual power backing you. The God you serve determines your financial principles and the backing you enjoy. In our case we are talking about the Almighty God. There are four ways God helps with your finances:
a) He gives you talents, potential, a gift.
b) He ensures that you have something doing and then blesses the labours of your hands. God moved a brother from joblessness to two good jobs. He joined the church during one of our annual programmes, AGSS. Shortly after, two organizations he applied to a long time ago called him and interviewed him. He got both jobs and had 2 appointments letters. He now had to pray again to decide which one to choose. That same anointing is here today to terminate joblessness.
c) He multiplies your seed sown and
d) He gives you miracle supply to bridge the gap.
(To be continued next week)
