The Adamawa State Government has taken a significant step toward implementing the long-awaited promotions and upgrading of Basic Education teachers, reaffirming its commitment to improving the welfare and career progression of teachers across the state.
As part of the process, the Ministry for Local Government Affairs has formally requested the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Dr. Murtala Umar Babayi, to submit the current and accurate financial implications required for the implementation of the outstanding promotions and upgrading of staff in the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
The request, contained in an official communication dated June 24, 2026, is aimed at enabling the ministry to assess and compile the financial requirements for the exercise and complete the necessary administrative procedures ahead of final approval and implementation.
The development underscores the commitment of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to ensuring that teachers’ welfare remains a top priority and that all due processes are followed to facilitate the implementation of the outstanding promotions and upgrading.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr. Babayi, assured that the Board would treat the request with the urgency it deserves. He said the Board would continue to work closely with the Ministry for Local Government Affairs and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the prompt submission of the required financial information.
The latest action signals meaningful progress toward addressing the concerns of Basic Education teachers, whose outstanding promotions and upgrading have remained pending. It also reflects the government’s resolve to handle the matter in a transparent, orderly, and accountable manner.
The Adamawa State Government also acknowledged the patience, resilience, and professionalism demonstrated by Basic Education teachers throughout the period, as well as the constructive engagement of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa State Wing, under the leadership of Comrade Faisal Mohammed, in advocating for the welfare of its members.
