A Gombe State-based charity, Velocity Humanitarian Foundation, has donated N10 million to victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Gombe timber market, popularly known as Kasuwar Katako.

The donation was presented by the foundation’s secretary, Mr. Safiyanu Existing, on behalf of the founder, Engineer Aliyu Mohammed Kombat, to leaders of the affected market.

Speaking during the presentation, Kombat said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the losses suffered by traders as a result of the inferno.

He expressed the foundation’s sympathy to the business community of Kasuwar Katako over the tragic incident, which reportedly destroyed goods and property worth hundreds of millions of naira.

“We are deeply pained by this unfortunate event, which has brought hardship to many hardworking traders and families whose livelihoods depend on this market.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the affected victims during this difficult period. We pray that Almighty God grants you strength, comfort and the grace to recover from this loss.

“In the spirit of compassion and solidarity, Velocity Humanitarian Foundation is providing financial assistance of ₦10 million to support relief and recovery efforts,” he said.

The foundation’s secretary assured that the leadership of the market would be engaged to ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the support to the victims.

“Though no assistance can fully replace what has been lost, it is our sincere hope that this intervention will help ease the burden and restore hope to the victims.

“May Almighty God replace what was lost with greater blessings and protect us all from future tragedies,” he added.
