Fire guts 63 shops in Zamfara market

Fire on Sunday razed at least 63 shops at Tudun Wada market in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, Daily Trust reports.

The fire is believed to have emanated from a frozen fish shop where there was an electrical fault.

During a visit to the scene, Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle commiserated with the victims and asked them to consider the accident as an act of Allah.

He advised traders to always check on their electrical appliances before leaving their shops at the end of the day’s business.

He said the state government would reconstruct the 63 shops that were affected by the disaster and directed the Sole Administrator of Gusau Local Government Area to start work soonest.

Governor Matawalle also constituted a committee led by a renowned Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kanoma, to ascertain the losses incurred by the traders and submit its report within seven days so that the state government could assist the victims to return to their respective businesses.

He said his government would continue to support marketers and other traders for the economic prosperity of the state.
