Fire kills couple, daughter in Kaduna community

A fire outbreak in Kafanchan town, Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State, on Monday night, killed a couple and their child.

Details of what caused the outbreak remains sketchy as at the time of filing this report yesterday as residents said they only saw smoke coming out of the house around 11pm on Monday night.

Malam Maikano Abdullahi, who lives in the same compound and also lost his belongings to the inferno, explained that all efforts made by the sympathisers, who came for rescue failed.

He said the fire started around 11:03pm, adding that “I woke up upon hearing my wife shouting for help as fire gutted the deceased’s room which is next to ours.

”What happened was terrible, “We tried our best to break the door but we couldn’t because the door was locked. Unfortunately, the couple; Abdurrahman Abdullahi aka Danjummai, his wife, Zainab Nuhu and their daughter of seven, Husna, all lost their life in the inferno before we succeeded in breaking the door.

He explained that all the people could hear was the wife’s screaming for help, but those around could not as the fire had engulfed the room.

City & Crime learnt that late Danjummai was a drivers’ inspector with the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

The Jama’a Emirate Council through the Madakin Jama’a and the District Head of Fada, Alhaji Audi Isa Muhammad and the council chairman of Jema’a LGA, Yunana Markus Barde, had paid a condolence visit to the family members of the deceased at their home on Jema’a Street, Kafanchan.
