A block of building accommodating 10 shops was gutted by fire in the early hours of Sunday at the main market in Gwagwa town, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory.
A resident, Madi Gana, told Abuja Metro that the fire started some minutes after 1am, and affected 10 provision and cosmetics shops.
Though no information about what might have caused the fire, many people who spoke to our reporter alleged that it originated from one of the shops.
In a phone interview with our reporter, the chairman of the youths in the market, Hussaini Haladu, said nothing was spared from the affected shops, adding that the raging fire was put out at about 4am through the combined efforts of officials of the FCT Fire Service and other volunteers.

Abuja Metro reports that this is the first fire incident at the market since 2004.
The market was transformed to a modern one in 2017 during the administration of the former AMAC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, who is from the community.
