An early morning fire outbreak yesterday razed three buildings and four shops along the Oke-Itoku road in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State.
Our correspondent gathered that the fire started by 1am from one of the buildings in the area and spread to the others.
A witness said residents alerted men of the state Fire Service, who they alleged arrived three hours later to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
One of the victims, Barrister Nurudeen Olaleye, said he lost his university, Law School, Bar and other professional certificates, as well as his birth certificate to the inferno.
“Many people lost valuables worth millions of naira to the fire,” he said.
Another victim, Kudrat Olaipupo, said, “Before I got here, my everything was gone. Only God knows what happened. We are appealing to the government to assist us. This is where we get money to feed.”
