Some female students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi have lost their properties worth thousands of naira to fire outbreak that caught their hostel last week.
The fire was said to have been ignited by an electrical socket in room 18 around 9pm and it lasted for two hours before it was quenched by a combine effort of the fire service officials from the Federal Polytechnic and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic.
However, Kano Chronicle learnt that no life was lost and no student was injured.
One of the victims, Joy Omodigbo told Kano Chronicle that most of her room mates have lost their credentials and other valuables to the fire.
Omodigbo who is a level 500 student of Agricultural Economics and Extension Department said that she had lost virtually everything to the fire including her project and laptop.
She commended Man O’ War and students who helped in their rescue by rushing into the hostel and assisted them, adding that “if not for the quick response by some students the fire would have escalated to other rooms, thereby cause more damage.
Another victim of the fire, who pleaded for anonymity, advised management of the institution to repair the school’s fire service truck which she said was faulty for a very long time.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incidence, saying no life was lost.
