About 18 houses and furniture shops were destroyed by fire yesterday at Unguwar Bariki in Madalla.
The fire which broke out at 7:00 pm burnt down furniture and other valuables estimated at millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire lasted for about three hours before it was brought under control by the officials of the fire service who got to the area from Suleja town.
The victims, mostly carpenters, who ran the affected shops and lived adjacent to their shops, lamented that they noticed the fire when it was already beyond control.
Some witnesses who spoke to City News said the fire was caused by a gas cooker which was being used at the time the fire started.
Responding, the Divisional Police Officer of Madalla, CSP Adamu Danjuma confirmed the incident, adding that investigation into the matter is ongoing.
