A fire outbreak on Saturday destroyed shops in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the incident happened at Sabon Fegi Quarters, near the residence of former governor of the state, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.

It was reported that over 10 shops with properties worth millions of naira were gutted by the fire. Daily Trust on Sunday learnt that some of the things destroyed include fabrics, used clothes, shoes, provisions, and other items.

An eyewitness, Mr Ahmed Idris Ahmed, said the blaze was noticed early in the morning.

“The fire was triggered by electricity voltage in one of the shops,” Ahmed said.

When contacted, The Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Baba Muhammad Bello, promised to return the call, but didn’t as at the time of going to press.
