The fire incident at the library complex of the University of Jos on October 8 has stalled the institution’s November accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and also affected on-going admissions into some departments, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, has said.
Daily Trust reports that the fire incident had burnt down the library at the permanent site Naraguta campus as well as six departments of the faculties of social science and management science. Prof. Maimako said during the visit of the Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, who led other members of the council on a courtesy visit on management of the university, that the university had launched a programme tagged ‘Operation Beauty from Ashes’ to encourage people to donate books and other library resources to replace those lost in the incident. Earlier, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, urged the government, TETFund, philanthropists and other public spirited individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the university.
