As the world marks Safer Internet Day 2025, Smartclicks Teach-Wellness Advocates Network, a non-governmental organization, has called on all stakeholders to prioritize investment in online safety education for young people, just as they do for acquiring digital skills.
In a press statement released to commemorate the global awareness day, Suliyat Adeleye Idris, representative of Smartclicks Digital Life Skills Education, emphasized that while parents and organizations invest significantly in equipping children and youth with digital skills for personal and professional growth, online safety and wellness education often receive minimal attention.
The statement highlighted that comprehensive online safety knowledge is essential for young people not only to acquire digital skills but also to use them responsibly and productively, ensuring long-term wellness and security.
It further stressed that although Safer Internet Day is observed once a year, online safety remains a daily priority, requiring continuous commitment from individuals, families, educators, and policymakers to create a digitally healthy society free from online fraud, abuse, and cyber-related health risks.
This year, Smartclicks’ theme for Safer Internet Day is “Online Safety for Productive Online Skills.” The theme aims to raise awareness on the need to balance digital skills development with online safety education, ensuring that young people can maximize productivity, well-being, and security in the digital space.
