The management of Heritage Fertilizer Company and Agrichitech, with a factory in Katsina State, has introduced a new brand of organomineral fertilizer into the Nigerian market.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Dr. Mustapha Radda, revealed that the company considered it crucial to support farmers by introducing the product at a time when the high cost of agricultural inputs is threatening farming activities and the nation’s food security.

He made this known while speaking to a high-level delegation of laboratory scientists and a technical team from the Jigawa Research Institute (JRI), Kazaure, who were in Katsina State to collect samples of organomineral fertilizer produced by Heritage Fertilizer Company and Agrichitech for nutrient and quality analysis.

According to him, organomineral fertilizer is a type of fertilizer produced by combining organic materials such as compost, poultry manure, crop residues, or animal waste with mineral or inorganic nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

The MD said the aim of establishing the company was to make fertilizer cheaper and more affordable for local farmers to boost agricultural development, ensure food security in the country, and reduce overdependence on chemical fertilizers for food production.

According to him, the difference between organomineral fertilizer and chemical fertilizer is that chemical fertilizers release nutrients quickly, while organomineral fertilizers help retain soil texture and improve soil fertility through organic matter.

Speaking during the inspection, the Director-General of JRI, Dr. Suleiman Rufa’i Babura, expressed satisfaction with the company’s operational standards and fertilizer production processes at the plant. He added that the purpose of their visit was to collect fertilizer samples for further laboratory analysis before presenting recommendations to the state government for necessary action.

He noted that the visit forms part of the Jigawa State Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that farmers across the state have access to effective and high-quality agricultural inputs.

“It is for this reason that the Research Institute consistently conducts research aimed at ensuring sustainable farming systems in the state, in line with the agricultural policy priorities of Governor Malam Umar Namadi,” he said.
