TREXM Holdings has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability with the launch of a community cleanup initiative in partnership with the African Cleanup Initiative (ACI), a non-governmental organisation focused on promoting environmental responsibility across African communities.

The initiative, which also includes the establishment of Sustainability Clubs in Nigerian secondary schools, is designed to promote environmental education, youth engagement and community wellbeing. Its first phase is being implemented in Victoria Island, Lagos, where TREXM is headquartered.

On November 14, 2025, no fewer than 30 TREXM staff members volunteered at least three hours of their workday to participate in the inaugural cleanup exercise, which covered Samuel Adedoyin Street and Sinari Daranijo Street in Victoria Island. The exercise led to the collection of 489.6 kilograms of waste, including one kilogram of recovered plastic, underscoring the company’s focus on responsible waste management and environmental protection.

A TREXM staff volunteer described the exercise as impactful, saying the experience exceeded expectations and strengthened a sense of teamwork and environmental stewardship among participants.

As part of the initiative’s educational component, TREXM, alongside ACI, visited Kuramo Junior College, Victoria Island, on November 21, 2025, where it launched its first Sustainability Club. Following an interactive session on environmental responsibility and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 53 students signed up for the club, while over 300 students participated in the engagement.

Students were sensitised on their roles in promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment. One of the students expressed excitement about the initiative, noting that it was their first exposure to a Sustainability Club. TREXM also donated essential Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning materials to the school.

Speaking on the initiative, Grace Okogwu, Corporate Communications Analyst at TREXM, said the programme reflects the company’s long-term commitment to its host communities and Nigeria at large.

“This initiative isn’t a one-off. It’s part of our long-term commitment to the communities we operate in and Nigeria as a whole. By educating young people and taking direct environmental action, we’re helping build a greener and more resilient future,” she said.

The cleanup exercise and school engagement align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, as well as Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.
