IPC is currently helping Abuja residents especially the low income earners build their homes on its land called Olive City Estate in Gurku, near Mpape, a settlement on the northern fringe of Abuja.
Gurku is in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.
Executive Director of IPC, Mr Adewale Owomoyela told Daily Trust in Abuja that his project is in three phases.
The first phase has already captured 1,200 subscribers. By 2020, all the phases would have been completed with a total subscriber base of 50,000.
He said, “IPC Homes tailors home solution to Nigerians who do not have huge money to build.
“For the first time we’ve provided site and services solution. One can pay N750 daily or N15,000 [in two years] to own land.
A plot of land of 500sqm in the estate goes for N360,000 payable over two years.
Owomoyela who doubted that government can tackle housing deficit noted that Nigeria’s population is rising so even if solutions are provided today, new challenges will emerge tomorrow.
He maintained that government cannot provide the N53 trillion needed to close the housing gap.
He lamented that home ownership in Nigeria is only 20 percent while small countries like Benin Republic has 63 percent.
An architect, Miss Charity Chawai said the Olive City Estate houses’ designs are simple because the target is the low income population.
