The Along Transport Limited has called for more investments in the transportation sector of the nation’s economy to boost employment and viability of the sector.
The Managing Director/Co-founder, Along Transport Limited, Mr Endurance Timothy Omonibo, made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at the formal presentation of the Along App in the FCT, Abuja, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
He said that despite government and private interventions, transportation in Nigeria’s major cities remain a nightmare, thus the need for concerted and collective efforts to adress the situation.
“The Along App is for Nigerians and the broader African market as a transformative solution to transportation challenges. We are a proudly Nigerian e-hailing transportation service dedicated to providing affordable, safe, and convenient rides for both drivers and passengers.
“Founded in 2023 by myself and my CEO/Co-founder, Dolapo Obatoyinbo, we officially launched it in September 2024, with the goal of transforming the transportation landscape.
“Drawing inspiration from the traditional concept of ‘along’, we have digitized it into an innovative mobile platform called the “Along App”,” Omonibo said.
He listed some key features of the Along App as prioritizing safety, comfort, and convenience, with features like identity verification for both riders and drivers.
He said that this ensures that all users are legitimate and accountable, and at the same time committed to offering affordable rides while enabling drivers to earn double their typical daily income, as can be seen in the over 500 trips already concluded on the app.
He said, “The app is currently in the beta testing phase and operates in Abuja, Rivers, and Bayelsa. The Along App offers two modes of transportation: Along (transit): Shared rides with pre-selected stops, available in both Economy and Business tiers.
“This mode allows up to four riders heading in the same direction to share a ride, making it more cost-effective than traveling solo. There is also the Drop (Trip): Private, solo rides to a specific destination, also offered in both Economy and Business tiers. Drivers can complete multiple shared trips each day, increasing their earnings,” he said.
He said that the organisation takes safety seriously as all riders and drivers are required to register using their National Identification Number (NIN) or Bank Verification Number (BVN), which helps to reduce incidents of crime such as kidnapping, theft, and harassment.
“We also partner with a trusted identity verification provider and are fully certified by the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC), ensuring compliance with privacy standards.
“Our SOS feature allows users to quickly notify their emergency contacts or services like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) or Nigeria Police in the event of an emergency.”
