First 7 Twitter accounts to be verified worldwide

Verified accounts debuted on the social network in 2009, and  Twitter was the first platform to introduce it.

"The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. The badge appears next to the name on an account’s profile and next to the account name in search results" says the twitter help center.

According to Twitter’s Verified @verified  there are currently about 216,000  account with the blue badge.

The blue badge which have a white tick is what show you an account has been verified.

Twitter’s  Vice President of user services, Tina Bhatnagar said in a release that the following accounts were the first to get verified.

 

@CDCgov (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

 

 

@NASAArmstrong (Armstrong Flight Research Center),

 

 

@KimKardashian (Kim Kardashian West),

 

@Oprah (Oprah Winfrey),

 

@MilwaukeePolice (Milwaukee Police Department),

 

@SF311 (San Francisco 311)

 

and @TonyHawk (Tony Hawk),
