With services such as trauma care, spine surgery, fracture treatment, deformity correction, joint replacement, limb lengthening and arthritis management among others, many described the privately owned hospital as a major step towards musculoskeletal care in the region.
At the inauguration of the Bone and Joint Orthopaedic Hospital it’s Medical Director, Dr.Muhammad Oboirien said that many have attested to an increasing demand for these services in the region as many had to travel to Kano, other parts of the country and abroad.
Head of Service, Sokoto State, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi who was the chairman at the official opening of the hospital noted that with the privately owned Bone and Joint Hospital, Sokoto and the state government owned Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital soon to be opened, the sufferings of accident and trauma victims who often had to travel to Kano or outside Nigeria to treatments would be reduced.
Shinkafi said  the ultra-modern, multi-million naira Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital  has been completed and equipped to international standard.
The HOS lauded the medical director of the bone and joint  hospital for the initiative and urged the hospital to ensure its services are affordable and efficient.
Dr.Muhammad Oboirien, said the move was to fill the gap in orthopaedic practice in the region.
“Access to private orthopaedic care is some 400km away. Patients are discouraged hence the patronage of traditional bone setters,” he noted.
He assured that delivering effective and efficient orthopaedic and trauma care is  their watch word.
The renowned Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon, who is the Head of Surgery, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, described the burden of trauma as very enormous worldwide just as he noted trauma as  the leading cause of death in people under the age of 44 years.
Among  the equipment at the hospital  include Anaesthetic Machine with Ventilator  that can deliver anaesthesia for up to 10-14hrs,a Multi-Parameter Patient Monitor that monitors oxygen saturation, ECG, blood pressure during operation and a Pneumatic Tourniquet ,used during upper and lower limb extremity surgeries to create a bloodless field.
