Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to embrace neurodiversity and create a more inclusive society where individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can thrive.

In her message to mark World Autism Awareness Day 2025, the First Lady highlighted the importance of recognising and celebrating the unique potential and skills of individuals living with autism. She joined millions worldwide in advocating for greater acceptance and inclusion.

“Neurodiversity is a beautiful testament to human uniqueness. Yet, many individuals with autism continue to face discrimination in accessing quality education, healthcare, employment, and social acceptance,” she said.

This year’s theme, “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” underscores the need to integrate autism inclusion into broader development efforts.

“Being considerate of people living with autism is not just a moral responsibility-it is a vital pillar of sustainable development,” she emphasized.

Senator Tinubu specifically referenced SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), stressing the need for equal opportunities in education and employment for individuals with autism.

“On this special day, I encourage all Nigerians to embrace neurodiversity, advocate for inclusion, and work together to create a society where every individual has the opportunity to excel,” she added.
