Arewa young farmers initiatives has revealed that it has concluded all necessary arrangement s to host first national young farmers summit in Nigeria as part of the moves to encourage youths participation in agricultural activities in the nation.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Kano, national President Arewa Young Farmers’ Initiative, Comrade Suleiman Salisu, stated that with the present shift of government emphasis from oil and gas sector to the agricultural sector, there is a need for the involvement of young farmers in the newly adopted development phenomenon.
The national president was speaking during a courtesy visit to the management of Anadariya Farms in Kano when the initiative presented a nomination letter to the CEO of Anadariya Farms Alhaji Usman Dantata Junior, adding that the coming of young people like the CEO of Anadariya Farms into practising agriculture has been an inspiring gesture worth commending and also it is a motivational step to get other young people to venture into agriculture.
Comrade Salisu further revealed that the initiative has decided to host the first young farmers’ summit coming up in Kaduna State to encourage those already involved in agricultural practices and also to sensitize others that are yet to get into it to know its importance.
“With recent government pronouncement of shift of emphasis from oil and gas sector to agriculture, we believe that there is a need for the young to take up the challenge and venture into agriculture. We also want to correct the notion that agriculture doesn’t stop at only taking the hoe to the farm, it is indeed a lot more than that. We have to explore along the agricultural value chain to really benefit from the good things that agriculture always provides,” Salisu said.
In his address, the CEO Anadariya Farms, Alhaji Usman Dantata Junior, said he felt honoured that what he is doing is being recognized by the initiative and also revealed that the farm has over 350 people working on it as against the initial less than 10 people working on the farm.
According to him, agriculture if fully driven by good political-will, can successfully replace the oil and gas economy.
