The golden jubilee of the society was graced by personalities including one of its spiritual leaders, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who delivered a sermon and traced the genesis of the Tijjaniyya denomination.
He said: “The origin of Tijjaniyya denomination is Shehu Tijjani (RTA) who was a Moroccan. Allah has hierarchised mankind into four strata: the prophets, the companions, those who love and adhere to the teachings of the first three.
“All the prophets are sent to make the necessary preparations for the arrival of the last prophet of Allah, Muhammad (SAW). All prophets are known to be without sin and they can be identified by mankind. This latter characteristic is also applicable to the prophets’ companions but not to the saints who made the fourth category of Allah’s classification of mankind. Indeed many of these saints live incognito. This therefore makes it a bit difficult for us to recognise them but Allah Almighty knows them. We can’t ignore the fact that saints are found only among devout Muslims, in other words, every Muslim can be tagged a saint but it is only Allah that evaluates our faith.
“On the Day of Judgment, Allah will call upon every one of us to give account and that will be made possible through the spiritual leaders of your generation. For instance those who lived during the generation of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) will converge before him and then before Allah. The same applies to all prophets of Allah, and the generations that came after them i.e their companions. And for those of us that live during the generation of Shehu Tijjani, it is him that will lead us to Allah.
“According to Tijjaniyya denomination, the late Shehu Tijjani has his descent from the household of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and from his name you need just to mention 26 names before arriving at the name of the prophet. This is the reason why he who loves the prophet, loves Shehu Tijjani and vice versa.
“The meaning of Tijjaniyya denomination is seeking for forgiveness from Allah (i.e chanting Istigfar) which purifies the soul and serves as bulwark from the evil of Satan. Chanting ‘Salatin Nabiy’ is also part of the doctrine. It is through practicing these tenets that one will be qualified to meet Allah.
“Before the death of Shehu Tijjani, he made it known that Shehu Ibrahim Inyass (RTA), a Senegalese would be his companion and he would take charge in propagating the Tijjaniyya denomination to every nook and cranny of the Islamic world. Both Shehu Tijjani and Shehu Ibrahim Inyass memorised the Holy Qur’an at the age of 7. Another similarity that the duo shared was they both became learned in Islamic theology at the age of 21.
“Memorisation of the Holy Qur’an was made easier after Shehu Ibrahim Inyass implored Allah to make it possible for all that espoused to Tijjaniyya doctrine. And no wonder it is now common to see kids memorising the Holy Qur’an. As of now I know of a girl in Kaduna, aged 5 that does so. And Shehu Ibrahim left behind more than 40 memorisers of the Holy Qur’an. This is to mention only those in his household.
“One other place that built good reputation in nurturing memorizers of the Holy Qur’an is the north-eastern part of the country, precisely Borno and Yobe states. But over the years it has become difficult for the region to produce memorisers, simply because of the violence going on there, spearheaded by Islamophobia aimed at partitioning us from the Holy Qur’an. We can still recall that even when the colonial masters arrived the region, they expressed some sense of apprehensive towards the people they met there due to the fact that the people were very versed with Qur’anic knowledge. Therefore they decide to put them under close watch and full monitoring.
“I believe Islam will survive this challenge as I urge us to continue praying for the restoration of peace in the affected states and the country in general,” Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said.
The ceremony was brought to a close after the presentation of awards to the founder of Fityanul Islam, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, the first National President, Sheikh Abubakar Atiku Sanka, the first National Secretary, Sheikh Tijjani Usman, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, Khalifah Isyaka Rabi’u, Sheikh Mahmud Salga, Sheikh Zubairu Kasim and others leaders of the movement.
Awards were also presented to governors of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Niger, Lagos, Gombe, Borno, Yobe and Kwara states.
As part of the anniversary, an orphanage home to be built by the movement at Dan Kande village got donation from the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo and Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima. Kaduna, Borno, Niger, Katsina and Kwara state governments also donated various sums of money. Senator Abu Ibrahim who also graced the occasion pledged to build an IT centre for the movement in Katsina State.
